There are many types of unshaped refractory materials, which can be classified according to the material of the refractory material or the type of binder used. Generally, according to its process characteristics, it can be divided into pouring or pouring refractory material (referred to as castable or pouring material), plastic refractory material (referred to as plastic), ramming refractory material (referred to as ramming material), spray refractory material (referred to as spraying material) , Projection refractory material (referred to as projecting material) and refractory mud, etc. Refractory coatings can also be considered as an unshaped refractory material.

The definitions and main features of various unshaped refractory materials classified by process characteristics are as follows:

1. Castable
It is a refractory material with high fluidity which is made of powdered refractory material, suitable binder and water, etc.; it is mostly constructed by pouring or tapping; the binder is mostly hydraulic calcium aluminate cement; heat-insulating light refractory material is used The made is called lightweight castable.

2. Refractory plastic
It is made of powdery and granular refractory materials, clay and other binders and plasticizers. It is in the form of mud paste and has high plasticity for a long time. It can be lightly pounded and compacted during construction, and its strength can be obtained by heating.

3. Ramming material
The loose refractory material composed of powdered and granular refractory material and bonding agent is constructed by strong ramming method.

4. Gunning mix
Unshaped refractories constructed by spraying are divided into wet construction and dry construction. Because they are mainly used for coating and repairing other furnace linings, they are also called spray paint and gunning material respectively.

5. Refractory clay
Unshaped refractory material composed of fine powdered refractory material and binder, divided into ordinary refractory clay, air-hardening refractory clay, hydraulic refractory clay and thermosetting refractory clay; paste and slurry mixture made by adding appropriate amount of liquid material.
